Rocío Jiménez-Briones is Senior Lecturer in English language and English Linguistics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM, Spain).

In June 1993 she obtained an exchange scholarship to start her M.A. in Linguistic Studies at Syracuse University (USA). During the academic year 1994-1995, she worked as Teaching Assistant in the department of Languages, Literature and Linguistics at Syracuse University, where she taught two courses in English Linguistics to finish off her M.A. In 2004 Rocío Jiménez Briones was awarded her Ph.D. from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Spain). Her Ph. D. dissertation, entitled La interficie semántica-sintaxis en una gramática léxico-funcional: el Modelo de Gramáticas Léxicas y su aplicación a los verbos de sentimiento de la lengua inglesa [The semantics-syntax interface in a lexico-functional grammar: The Lexical Grammar Model and its application to the English verbs of feeling], earned the UNED Distinguished Ph.D. Dissertation Award in 2005. In the summer of 2006 she was Visiting Scholar at NYU (New York, USA).

Rocío Jiménez-Briones is particularly interested in the relationship between syntax and semantics, in both functional and constructional approaches to language, and has also carried out research in the representation of lexical knowledge in English and Spanish. She has lately focused on the field of natural language processing and its relation with theoretical linguistics, contributing to the design and implementation of FunGramKB, a multipurpose lexico-conceptual knowledge base. To date she has been an active member in nine research projects funded by the Spanish National Research Plan I+D+i, by the Regional Government of Madrid and by UAM.

Rocío Jiménez-Briones has published in national and international books and journals (i.e. RESLA, Revista Canaria de Estudios Ingleses, Onomázein, Akal, Peter Lang, Mouton de Gruyter and John Benjamins). She has also presented papers at international and national conferences and seminars such as the The International Conference on Role and Reference Grammar, The International Conference on Meaning and Knowledge Representation, The Societas Lingüística Europaea (SLE), The International Conference on Construction Grammar, The International Contrastive Linguistics Conference, LA ASOCIACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE LINGÜÍSTICA APLICADA (AESLA) or LA ASOCIACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE LINGÜÍSTICA COGNITIVA (AELCO).

Dr. Jiménez-Briones graduated in English Philology in 1993 at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM, Spain). She obtained an exchange scholarship to do her M.A. in Linguistic Studies at Syracuse University (USA) from 1993 to 1995. In 2004 she was awarded her Ph.D. from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Spain). Her dissertation, entitled The semantics-syntax interface in a lexico-functional grammar: The Lexical Grammar Model and its application to the English verbs of feeling and supervised by Dr. Mairal Usón, earned the UNED Distinguished Ph.D. Dissertation Award in 2005. This university education continues to this day with her participation in conferences and courses that focus on the latest developments and research in linguistics as well as on updating the teaching methodology and educational technologies in the university classroom.
