Welcome to the website of Seconds

SECONDS (Semantic Conceptual Development Systems) is a multidisciplinary research project carried out by scholars interested in the cognitive, formal, computational and social dimensions of language. Special emphasis is given to testing linguistic data in terms of:

  • their potential in a clinical domain, i.e. Mild Cognitive Impairment in Alzheimer disease,
  • their performance in Natural Language Processing,
  • their applicability to lexicography and language pedagogy,
  • and their relevance in semantic web and liked data.

SECONDS has worked extensively on the following products:

  • Lexical Constructional Model (LCM), (www.lexicom.es), a comprehensive meaning construction model;
  • FunGramKB Suite (www.fungramkb.com), an online knowledge-engineering environment for the semiautomatic construction of a multipurpose lexico-conceptual knowledge base for natural language processing (NLP) systems;
  • ARTEMIS (Automatically Representing TExt Meaning via an Interlingua-based System), a proof-of-concept computer application which is able to automatically provide a semantic representation of a text under the format of a conceptual logical structure (CLS):

Since 2005, our research activity has been and is still being funded by the following projects:
